This cultural and sightseeing center widely conveys the unique history and culture of Sakai with a focus on two people who have deep connections with Sakai: Sen no Rikyu and Akiko Yosano.
In addition to the permanent exhibition of these two persons, you can enjoy matcha tea and traditional Japanese sweets from Sakai seated in a chair, with the Ryurei Teicha (Casual Tea Ceremony) served by Ura-Senke, Omote-Senke or Mushanokoji-Senke at the Chanoyu Experience Room. Also, there is a fully-equipped tea room where you can experience the making of matcha tea. Moreover, a full range of hands-on content is available, such as the state-of-the-art VR and restored tea room. The Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko gives you the chance to try walking around the attractive streets of Sakai as a museum where you can experience the history and culture of this city and see it as it was in the Azuchi-Momoyama period when Sen no Rikyu lived and the Meiji and Taisho periods when Akiko Yosano lived.
